BPS Finds 1.9 Million KPM Groups Able When Checking Directly Social Assistance Recipients

Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that her party found 1.9 million out of 6.9 million beneficiary families (KPM) who were known to be able to check directly with recipients of social assistance (bansos) to the field to ensure that the assistance provided by the government was right on target.

"We did the background check, there were 1.9 million (of their data) who should not have deserved social assistance from the government," said Head of BPS Amalia during a press conference after a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential office, Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday, June 2.

Amalia continued that the KPM data included in the National Sole Social Economic Data (DTSEN) has been corrected by BPS. A total of 1.9 million KPM, which was originally categorized as entitled to receive assistance, is currently transferred to groups that do not have the right to receive social assistance from the government.

The Head of BPS also believes that the distribution of social assistance in the second quarter of 2025 can be right on target, because it refers to DTSEN, which continues to be updated and checked for periodic validity.

"By using the National Sole Social Economic Data, of course, the social assistance that will be rolled out in the second quarter, and also to encourage as one of the economic stimulus programs, this will be more targeted," said Head of BPS Amalia.

Amalia also explained the flow of checking data on KPM recipients of social assistance in DTSEN. BPS, when checking and verifying data, cooperates with the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).

A total of 16.5 million KPM data out of a total of 20.3 million data have been verified by BPKP. Of the amount of verified data, 14.3 million KPM entered the 1 family category with the lowest national welfare level.

The Ministry of Social Affairs, as conveyed by Amalia, began distributing social assistance to 14.3 million KPM as of the end of May 31, 2025.

At the same location, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati announced five government economic incentives for the June 'July 2025 period which was approved by President Prabowo Subianto. The five incentives include discounts on the transportation sector, discounted toll rates, wage subsidy assistance (BSU), additional social assistance, a 50 percent discount for work accident insurance contributions.

Sri Mulyani explained that the five policy packages were issued by the government to maintain people's purchasing power, maintain economic growth, and increase public consumption during the school vacation period in June-July 2025.

Sri Mulyani, on the same occasion, also announced that the government has not yet implemented a discount on electricity rates.

"The electricity discount, it turns out that the budgeting needs or processes are much slower. So if we aim to be in June and July, we decide that it cannot be carried out," said Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani during a press conference after a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto.

He said the government had decided to shift the budget for discounted electricity rates to the wage subsidy assistance program because it was considered more prepared in terms of data and execution.
