2 Couriers Of Methamphetamine 20 Kilograms Sentenced To Death At The Medan District Court
The panel of judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra sentenced two defendants to be couriers of methamphetamine weighing 20 kilograms between provinces, from Sungai Sialang Village, Rokan Hilir Regency in Riau to Medan City in North Sumatra.
"Sentenced two defendants with each death penalty," said Chief Judge Philip Mark Soentpiert at the Medan District Court, Monday, June 2.
The Assembly said the two defendants were Jasri (34), a resident of Jalan Lintas Bagansiapiapi, Batu Hampar District, Rokan Hilir Regency in Riau.
Then, Heri Chandra (43), a resident of Lingkar Utara Lingkar Lingkar Lingkungan V, Teluk Nibung District, Tanjung Balai City in North Sumatra.
"The two defendants were found guilty of violating Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code," he said.
According to the judge, the actions of the two defendants were burdensome because they did not support the government's program to eradicate drug crimes and have disturbed the public.
"Meanwhile, no mitigating factors were found," said Judge Philip.
After reading the verdict, Chief Judge Philip Mark Soentpiert gave seven days to the two defendants and the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Belawan Kejari to state his position on the death sentence.
"The two defendants and the public prosecutor were given one week to state their position whether to accept or appeal this verdict," said Judge Philip.
Outside the trial, the Prosecutor's Office of Belawan, Daniel Surya Partogi, said that his party accepted this verdict because it was in accordance with the previous demands that the two defendants were sentenced to death.
"We accept the verdict, because the panel of judges agrees with the public prosecutor to impose the death penalty on the two defendants. Meanwhile, the two defendants each expressed their thoughts," said Public Prosecutor Daniel.
JPU Kejari Belawan Rizki Fajar Bahari in his indictment said the case began on Tuesday (10/9/2024) at 21.30 WIB.

At that time, the defendant Jasri was contacted by Wak Alang to be on the wanted list (DPO) and ordered to deliver the methamphetamine with the defendant Heri by driving a Honda BRV.
To the defendant Jasri, Wak Alang explained that the defendant Heri and Kahar (DPO) would arrive in Sungai Sialang Village, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau, Thursday (12/9/2024) in the morning.
Wak Alang also explained that he had prepared 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in the Honda BRV.
Then, at around 15.00 WIB, the two defendants left for Medan City, North Sumatra.
On Friday (13/9/2024) at 1.00 WIB, the two defendants arrived at the Lubuk Pakam toll road, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, and contacted the person who would receive the methamphetamine.
However, when the two defendants were about to leave at the Bandar Selamat toll gate, Medan Tembung, Medan City, suddenly the two defendants were chased by a car.
Seeing that, immediately the defendant Jasri, who was driving a car, drove at high speed.
Until finally the defendants Jasri and the defendant Heri were stopped by a car containing police members from the North Sumatra Police, precisely on Jalan Guru Patimpus, Kesawan Village, West Medan, Medan City.
"During the search, the police found methamphetamine weighing 20 kilograms, and the two defendants were immediately taken to the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate for further processing," said Public Prosecutor Rizki.
