North Korea Values US Golden Dome Defense Shield As A 'Nuclear War Scenario'
JAKARTA - North Korea's Foreign Ministry criticized the United States Golden Dome missile defense project as a "very dangerous and threatening initiative", state media said on Tuesday.
US President Donald Trump said on May 20 he had chosen a design for the Golden Dome missile defense system and appointed an ambitious program leader worth USD 175 billion.
The Golden Dome plan "is a typical product of 'President America', the culmination of the correct attitude, arrogance, arbitrary and arbitrary practices, and is a space nuclear war scenario," the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, according to state news agency KCNA.
The goal of the Golden Dome is to utilize a network of hundreds of satellites that surround the world with advanced sensors and interceptors, to cripple enemy missiles that come after taking off from countries such as China, Iran, North Korea or Russia.
Last week, China said it was "deeply concerned" about the project and asked Washington to stop its development.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said the project brought "strong offensive implications" and increased the risk of space militarization and arms race.
"The United States, in implementing the 'mainstay the US' policy, is obsessed with seeking absolute security for itself. This violates the principle that the security of all countries should not be compromised and undermine global strategic balance and stability. China is very concerned about this," Mao said.
He urged Washington to stop developing the system as soon as possible, taking action to increase trust among major countries.
Meanwhile, Russia is indicating plans for the Golden Dome anti-missile defense system, aka President Donald Trump's Gold Dome, could encourage the resumption of contacts between Moscow and Washington about future nuclear arms control.

When asked about Trump's announcement of a design choice for the Golden Dome missile defense shield, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was United States sovereignty.
Peskov, when asked if Russia saw the project as a threat to Russia's nuclear equality with the United States, said there were no details about the US project.
"In the near future, the series of events require the resumption of contact regarding the issue of strategic stability," Peskov said.
