Social Minister Affirms People's Schools For Superior Schools For The Poor

JAKARTA - Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf emphasized that the People's School should not be underestimated because it is equivalent to superior schools even though it is free from the quality and facilities side.

"The president wants to glorify the poor. They must have access to quality education facilities, the equivalent of superior schools. Only extreme poor children go there, without academic selection, without IQ tests. What is important is that he is from a poor family and wants to go to school," said Social Minister Saifullah as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 21.

He also reiterated that the People's School is not an alternative school because superior schools are specially designed to reach those who are left behind.

This superior side, he said, one of which can be reviewed from the curriculum aspect. The approach used by People's Schools is based on children's potential and talent.

The child's health aspect is also a major concern before and as long as prospective students and students enter school.

In order to reach children from poor families, he said that the construction of People's Schools would be carried out at various points throughout Indonesia in stages.

For the initial stage, the People's School will open in July 2025 at 63 points.

After 63 schools operate, the government also targets the construction of People's Schools at other points to gradually reach 100 points.

In addition to adequate facilities and infrastructure, flexible learning models are also characteristic of People's Schools.

"Multi entry is multi exit. If one module has been completed, you can work first, then continue. You don't have to graduate in three years. Flexible," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

His party's desire cannot be separated from the facts about the condition of students at the People's School from poor and extreme poor families.

Therefore, students must be provided with knowledge and skills to survive and be able to develop from an economic and social perspective.

Their parents at the same time will also be facilitated with empowerment programs.
