BNN RI Calls Retired TNI Arrested In Johar Baru Has Network In Sumatra

The National Narcotics Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BNN RI) raided the house of a retired Indonesian Army officer suspected of being a drug courier on Jalan Tanah Tinggi, Johar Baru, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday night, May 20, 2025.

During the raid, officers confiscated 25 kilograms of methamphetamine with a market value of IDR 50 billion.

The head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency, Komjen Pol Martinus Hukom, said that the amount was obtained after calculating the evidence at the location.

"Earlier, it was only calculated, approximately 25 kilograms. In the market per kilogram, it is worth around Rp. 2.5 billion. So the total value is around Rp. 50 billion," said Komjen Marthinus to reporters.

Two perpetrators with the initials YS and ZN were arrested during the operation. One of the perpetrators, YS, is known to be a retired member of the Indonesian Army.

"(Former TNI) Ready, soldier. Retired, ready," said YS in front of the Head of BNN when secured.

Komjen Martinus revealed that the drug network involving the two perpetrators was strongly suspected of originating from the Sumatra region. He said this pattern was not new in drug trafficking in Indonesia.

This network must be from Sumatra, this is common. We and our colleagues continue to strive to change the paradigm of society, so that they are not trapped in the drug business," he explained.

He added that cultural and religious approaches have been taken to help people get out of the circle of narcotics trafficking.

"They brought the cells off. We are currently analyzing all the information from the field. The perpetrators want to deliver the goods somewhere, but because there is no order from the controller, we don't know the exact location yet," he said.

Komjen Martinus also emphasized that the state will not remain silent on drug dealers and will continue to carry out massive operations.

"We are carrying out operations in various regions. If yesterday the Indonesian Navy succeeded in thwarting the smuggling of 2.6 tons of crystal methamphetamine, we are also carrying out cross-province operations. This is a firm message for dealers: the state will not lose to them. The state is here with full strength," he said.

This case is still being investigated by BNN to uncover a wider network and find out the roles of each perpetrator in the narcotics syndicate.
