Puan Urges TNI Transparency On Prosecutor's Security: Don't Create Slander

Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, asked the Indonesian National Army (TNI) to provide a firm explanation regarding the security policy of prosecutors' institutions throughout Indonesia. According to him, the TNI needs to explain openly the procedures that are the basis for military involvement in securing these law enforcement agencies.

"There must be a firm explanation whether the SOP is like that or not," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Thursday, May 15.

Puan assessed that the TNI's involvement in securing the prosecutor's office needed to be conveyed transparently so as not to cause negative perceptions in the community.

He asked the TNI to clearly open the basis and mechanism of the policy so as not to cause slander or misleading assumptions. "Don't let there be slander or other thoughts," he said.

The policy emerged after the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak issued Telegram Letter Number ST/1192/2025 dated May 6, 2025. In the letter, all ranks were asked to provide security support to high prosecutors and state prosecutors throughout Indonesia.

Head of the Indonesian Army Information Service, Brigadier General Wahyu Yudhayana, explained that the instructions in the telegram letter were addressed to the Commanders of the Military Regional Command (Pangdam) and related to institutional cooperation between the TNI and the prosecutor's office.

"What will be carried out in the future is institutional security cooperation, in line with the structure of the Deputy Attorney General for Military Crimes (Jampidmil) at the prosecutor's office," Wahyu said when confirmed in Jakarta, last Sunday.

He added that the presence of elements of the TNI in securing the prosecutor's office was part of the support for structures that had been regulated hierarchically and in inter-institutional cooperation.
