BYD Expands International Market, Officially Enters Romanian Automotive Market Brings 4 Superior Models
JAKARTA - China's largest automaker BYD continues to expand its international market by officially entering the Romanian market, as a broader expansion measure in European soil.
Quoting from the Carnewschina page, Tuesday, May 13, the brands that were already present in Indonesia immediately carried four car models at once in Romania, including two pure Sealion 7 and Seal electric vehicles, then two PHEV vehicles namely Seal U DM-i and BYD Atto 2.
BYD has partnered with local Romanian distributors, Tiriac Auto and DAB Auto, to support the company's entry and open its first dealer in Bucharest, and plans to open 30 dealers in various big cities by the end of 2025.
The launch of BYD in Romania amid ongoing changes in the EU tariff structure. Electric vehicles imported from China are subject to a tariff of 27 percent, while PHEV vehicles are subject to a tax of 10.

Romania is one of the newest European markets BYD has entered. The company is now present in more than 20 European countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and various other countries. BYD has declared its long-term goal of becoming Europe's leading electric vehicle brand by 2030.
The move follows the recent launch of BYD in Croatia, where the company is partnering with Auto Hrvatska and Harmony New Energy Auto Service Zagreb.
With the Romanian market continuing to grow towards electrification, the entry of BYD is expected to contribute to a larger shift towards low-emission vehicles.
