Apple Prepares New Features To Facilitate Wi-Fi Connection At Hotels, Trains And Aircraft

JAKARTA Apple is reportedly developing a new feature that allows its devices to automatically share Wi-Fi login information, including on public networks such as hotel Wi-Fi, train, and aircraft known as captive networks.

Since iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra (2017), users of Apple devices can share Wi-Fi passwords between devices automatically. However, this system does not yet support public or commercial networks that usually require a special login page.

Now, according to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is working to expand the capability to a paid or conditional Wi-Fi hotspot network, which is commonly found in commercial places.

If this feature is launched, users only need to login to one device, for example iPhone and other Apple devices such as the iPad or MacBook, will be automatically connected without the need to re-enter.

However, it is not yet known whether this system will support the sharing of access between users such as the current feature on ordinary networks.

Many public networks, such as hotels, apply a two-device limit per login, and will likely still refuse third devices even if this feature is implemented. However, some systems allow device replacements as long as no more than two are connected simultaneously.

How Apple will manage a scenario like this is still unclear.

Although password sharing in Apple's ecosystem makes it very easy, this feature has experienced security concerns in the past. Apple is likely to tighten its authentication systems to avoid similar potential risks in public networks.
