PBSI Apologizes For Failing To Fulfill Target In The 2025 Sudirman Cup

JAKARTA The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) apologized after failing to meet the target in the 2025 Sudirman Cup which was completed last weekend.

Indonesia came to the Sudirman Cup this year with a target of reaching the final round. Unfortunately, their journey then ran aground in the semifinals after losing against South Korea.

Head of PBSI's Development and Achievement Division, Eng Hian, said that Indonesian athletes had struggled all out in the mixed team tournament even though the results were not satisfactory.

"I as the head of the 2025 Sudirman Cup team apologize to the General Chairperson of PBSI (Fadil Imran) and PBSI leaders and to all Indonesian people with this achievement."

"We haven't been able to give the expected results yet, but we can all see how the Red-White fighters struggle in the arena to the last drop of blood," he said.

The defeat in the semifinals made Indonesia have to settle for returning home with a bronze medal. This is the eighth time in the history of the tournament, the Red-White representatives have become semifinalists.

Eng Hian said that currently Indonesia's strength in all sectors is not evenly distributed, so in mixed teams such as the Sudirman Cup, there must be difficulties to compete.

"In the 2025 Sudirman Cup, we got positive scores from the appearance of young athletes. The performance of Putri Kusuma Wardani, Alwi Farhan, and Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah, is very promising," he said.

Meanwhile, China, who acted as the host, finally came out as a tournament champion. They defended the title and won the 14th trophy in the history of this prestigious event.

For Indonesia, the results of this year have extended the title drought at the Sudirman Cup. In the history of the tournament, Indonesia has only won once, namely the first edition in 1989.
