Xiaomi's 2024 ESG Report: Accessibility Of Technology And Environmentally Friendly Production

JAKARTA - Xiaomi Corporation launched the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report for 2024, which revealed various Xiaomi achievements in accessibility technology, mitigation, adaptation of climate change, and reuse & recycle systems.

In 2024, Xiaomi's annual investment in Research and Development (R&D) will reach 24.1 billion Yuan (equivalent to around IDR 55.21 trillion), and the number of patents filed globally exceeds 42,000.

Xiaomi Smart Factory and Xiaomi EV Factory started operating last year. These two facilities use industrial internet technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to achieve efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable production.

Xiaomi is also developing its own hardware and software, along with other technologies, for production lines, automatic logistics, and cloud-edge-device automation control at Xiaomi Smart Factory.

Xiaomi is committed to creating an inclusive digital experience, especially for users with special needs. In 2024, Xiaomi will increase accessibility with features such as text extraction, real-time subtitles, and gesture control.

The TalkBack feature for visually impaired is also enhanced with OCR from AI HyperOS to read text in images. HyperOS 2 also presents real-time subtitles with an accuracy of up to 93 percent.

In addition, Xiaomi has completed measurements of carbon lifecycle tracks for 18 representative products (13 smartphone and tablet devices, 1 wearable device, and 4 smart home applications products) by the end of 2024.

In response to climate change, Xiaomi has implemented concrete actions across business operations, including office work, production and manufacturing, logistics and transportation, store operations, and supply chains.

Xiaomi runs a global electronic waste recycling program with a graded approach, including trade-in, repair, and use of recycled materials. More than 1.3 million used recycled devices in China and this program extends to nine other countries.

Xiaomi also uses environmentally friendly materials, such as bio-based from lemon residue and recycled metals, in its product design.
