Grandson Of The Commander In Chief Proposes To Build The Biggest Statue Of General Sudirman In Bogor City

Bogor Mayor, Dedie A. Rachim, received a visit from Ganang Sudirman, the grandson of the Great Commander General Sudirman, in a warm meeting that took place at the Bogor Mayor's Office House, Jalan Raya Pajajaran, Tuesday, April 29.

The visit was aimed at discussing the plan to build a statue of General Sudirman in the Taman Air Fountain area, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Bogor City.

The statue was designed by Ganang as a monumental work to honor General Sudirman's great services in his struggle to defend the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

Dedie Rachim welcomed the initiative and expressed his appreciation for the idea of building the statue.

He stated that he would further study the proposed proposal, taking into account the historical, location, and technical aspects of its implementation into account.

"This is a very good idea and should be appreciated. We are very open to efforts to preserve history, especially regarding the figure of a national hero," said Dedie Rachim.

Meanwhile, Ganang Sudirman, as the initiator of the Panglima Sudirman Foundation, explained that the statue would be built as a form of respect for General Sudirman's struggle, as well as a reminder that his military career began in Bogor City.

"The statue of the Great Commander General Sudirman aims to remember and appreciate his great services in seizing and defending independence. We want the public to know, especially the younger generation, that this figure had started his struggle from Bogor," said Ganang.

Ganang also explained that the statue of General Sudirman which is described as riding a horse will be the largest of all his statues ever built.

He chose the Fountain Park as the location for the construction of a statue because it was considered iconic, located on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, has historical value as the zero point in Bogor City, and is close to the Indonesian Defenders Museum (PETA).

This statue will be a symbol of history, fighting spirit, and exemplary. For that, we ask for permission from the Bogor City Government so that this can be realized immediately," he added.

The plan to build this statue is also supported by the TNI Headquarters and is expected to become one of the city's icons that strengthen Bogor's identity as a city of history.
