Hit By An Injury, Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws From Madrid Open 2025

JAKARTA Carlos Alcaraz resigned from the Madrid Open 2025 due to injury and hopes to return to appear to defend his French Open 2025 title.

The world number three in the world from Spain said that he suffered a hamstring injury and a groin in the second set in the 2025 Barcelona Open final last weekend.

"In a week or two I will return to training, but I will try in stages," said Alcaraz, who has won four Grand Slam titles, quoted by BBC Sport.

Alcaraz is a two-time champion at Madrid and won Monte Carlo Masters this month after beating Italy player Lorenzo Musetti in the final.

The 21-year-old then reached the final at Barcelona and fought Holger Rune. He had received medical treatment and was able to continue the match, but ended up losing.

"I can't train all week. I made the right decision. I don't want to go too far ahead, but I hope I will be ready for the French Open 2025," he said.

In preparation for maintaining the title in France, Alcaraz also intends to go to Rome to participate in the Italian Open 2025, which will start on May 6, 2025.

Alcaraz remains confident he can challenge the title at Roland Garros even though he cannot play competitively before the most prestigious clay field tournament.

"Men mentally I think I'm strong enough to play tennis well again. So, this is not going to lose my confidence."

"If I don't play in Rome, or if I don't play in any tournament before Roland Garros, I don't care. I know my level, I know what I have to do to play tennis well," he said.
