Oscars Allow Films That Use AI Nominations
JAKARTA The Academy Award organizer's statement, familiarly known as the Oscars, regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in films attracts attention because it is included in the latest rules.
On April 21, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said that AI would not harm the chances of winning a nomination. Therefore, they will not criticize filmmakers who take advantage of AI.
"Regarding the Generative AI and other digital devices used in filming, these devices do not help or harm opportunities for nominations. Academy and each branch will assess these achievements," explains Academy.
To emphasize that the role of humans is more important, Academy explains that it will consider 'to what extent humans are at the core of creative harm'. This will be considered in choosing award winners.

Despite the controversy over AI licensing in filmmaking, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences managed to go further with this policy. According to a New York Times report, Academy was the first organization to mention the use of AI.
The reason is, all filmmakers must reveal whether they use AI in the production process. Apparently, this was done to answer the controversy over the use of AI in the films The Brutalist and Emilia Perez.
The two films that were nominated for Best Film admit that the production party used AI. Reportedly, this technology is used to manipulate actress voices so that the range of singing can be wider.
