Meta Use AI To Detect Adult Teenage Accounts

JAKARTA Meta will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to detect teenagers on Instagram. Using AI, children can no longer lie to systems about their age.

Over the years, even since Instagram was launched, Meta realized that children tend to break through the age requirements set by the company. For example, they will claim to be 13 years old to be able to have an account.

In fact, they may still be under that age. In addition, not a few teenagers also claim to be over 18 years old. This is done so that they can avoid Youth Accounts and can use Instagram freely.

Starting last Monday, April 21, Meta tested its AI technology in the US to find accounts suspected of belonging to teenagers. Even though they claim to be adults, juvenile-detected accounts will fall into the category of Youth Accounts.

"We started testing AI technology in the US designed to proactively find accounts we suspect belong to teenagers, even if the account lists an adult's date of birth, and places it in a Youth Account setting," Meta said.

The company that oversees Instagram and Facebook said that they have been using AI for a long time to determine the age of users. However, the use of AI this time is something new and is a big change.

Meta does not need to search for teenage accounts that pretend to be adults manually. Despite using a more instant system, Meta seeks to increase the accuracy of the AI technology they use.

"We are taking steps to ensure our technology is accurate and that we place teens that we properly identify into protective and age-appropriate settings, but if we make a mistake, we give people the option to change their settings," explains Meta.
