US Highlights Mangga Dua Sarang Barang Bajakan, Pramono: Central Government Affairs
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded to the spotlight from the United States which called the Mangga Dua shopping area, Jakarta, a pirated or fake goods center.
According to Pramono, the confinement and follow-up to the spotlight of the superpower is the authority of the central government.
"That's the central government's business," Pramono told reporters, Sunday, April 20.
The 2025 National Trade Estimate Report on Foreign Trade Barriers report from the United States Trade Representative Office (USTR), Mangga Dua Market is continuously on the list of priorities and the Famous Market Review for Forgery and Hijacking in 2024, along with several Indonesian online markets.
According to USTR, the lack of law enforcement regarding the Republic of Indonesia is still a problem, the US urges Indonesia to use the HKI enforcement task force to increase law enforcement cooperation between institutions and the relevant law enforcement ministries.
"The United States also continues to encourage Indonesia to provide an effective protection system against unfair commercial use," the USTR document reads.
Through the report, the US is also worried that the 2016 Patent Law (UU) has been amended through the Job Creation Act, so that these requirements can be met through imports or licenses.
The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso also responded to Mangga Dua as a pirated goods center and became one of the obstacles to trade relations between Indonesia and the US.
Budi said that it is necessary to enforce Intellectual Property (Haki) in the midst of the circulation of pirated goods (illegal) in Indonesia.
"In principle, indeed the United States (US) also wants all kinds of RIGHTs to be enforced. We will check the problem first," said Budi at the Sarinah Court, Central Jakarta, Sunday, April 20.
Not only to the US, according to him, the enforcement of the HaKI needs to be done when working with any country. "In principle with the US or with any country, such as it must be enforced," he continued
Regarding the plan to inspect Mangga Dua Market, his party ensures that so far they continue to carry out routine surveillance of illegal goods circulating in the community.
