UI Freezes Doctor Students Who Are Suspected Of Recording Student During Bathing

DEPOK University of Indonesia (UI) temporarily suspended the academic activity of a doctor participating in the Specialist Doctors Education Program (PPDS) with the initials MAES (39), who is suspected of being involved in cases of sexual harassment.

MAES was reported to the Central Jakarta Metro Police on suspicion of recording a student bathing in a boarding room in the Central Jakarta area. Based on the report, MAES has been named a suspect by the police.

Director of Public Relations and Public Information Disclosure of UI, Arie Afriansyah, stated that the campus deeply regrets and is concerned about reports of alleged sexual harassment involving one of its students.

"Indonesia's University is very concerned and regrets the reports of this sexual harassment case," said Arie in an official statement, Sunday, April 20.

Arie explained that MAES is an active second-half student in the Dental Medical Radiology Specialist Program. He emphasized that UI would respect the ongoing legal process at the Central Jakarta Metro Police before imposing permanent sanctions on the person concerned.

"As an educational institution, UI has and will continue to handle this case in accordance with applicable procedures," he added.

The UI also stated its readiness to cooperate fully with law enforcement officials to support the smooth running of the investigation process.

Although there has been no final legal decision, UI has taken preventive steps by temporarily freezing MAES' academic status.

"Of course we will wait for a legal decision that has permanent force before making a permanent decision regarding the student's status. For the time being, his academic activities are frozen," said Arie.
