Lionel Messi: There Is No Competition Between Argentina And Mexico

JAKARTA - Lionel Messi reiterated his recent feud with Mexican fans.

"They put themselves in a position of having no competition with us," the Argentina captain commented in an interview with Simplemente Futbol program, broadcast on YouTube.

"There is no comparison between Argentina and Mexico. I don't know where it came from," he said again.

Clashes between Albiceleste and El Tri have been a classic World Cup match.

The last time this happened was in the first round of the 2022 World Cup, with a 2-0 win for Lionel Scaloni's team.

After the duel, the Argentine star, who drew admiration among most rival fans, became the target of Mexico's anger.

"I don't know what happened to the Mexicans, when the competition, the anger, began."

"I've always felt loved very much by Mexicans. I've never disrespected anyone," said Messi.

Rosario's birth star scored four goals against Mexico, the last to take place at the 2022 World Cup. He has never lost an official match against Mexico.

Messi said in an interview that this was the goal he was most celebrating in Qatar.

"Not because of the fans, away from it. It's a relief and gives us the peace of mind to return to normal and depend on ourselves," he said, referring to the victory that paved the way to the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup.

However, off the pitch, Messi was involved in a strange incident at the 2022 World Cup involving a T-shirt he exchanged with Andres Guardado.

Mexican boxing champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez thinks Messi left his shirt on the dressing room floor as an insult to his country.

Although the incident was later clarified and the boxer apologized for misinterpreting Messi's actions, the Argentine was abused by Mexican fans during a friendly match between his team, Inter Miami, against Club America (Mexico) earlier this year in Las Vegas.

The Inter Miami captain scored and celebrated in front of Aguilas fans by pointing at three fingers, which refers to Argentina's World Cup title.
