Best Time To Drink Coffee So You Can Sleep Well At Night

JAKARTA - Coffee is a favorite drink for many people to start the day, but did you know that coffee time can affect its effectiveness and sleep quality? Nutritionist Nichola Ludlam-Raine says it's not just an important amount of coffee, but also when you drink it.

Nutritionist Nichola Ludlam-Raine, who spoke for Coffee Friends, shared advice on the best time to drink coffee first and last time in a day. Nichola, author of How Not to Eat Ultra-Processed, praised coffee for its antioxidant content. However, consumption time is very important.

"The best time to drink coffee is usually from mid to late morning, around 09.30 to 11.30. This is when cortisol levels start to decline. Drinking coffee right after waking up can reduce its effectiveness, because cortisol (hormon vigilance) is naturally high in the morning," explained Nicola, quoted from the Mirror page.

"In the afternoon, coffee can still boost energy, but it's best not to drink too late, especially if you're sensitive to caffeine. Caffeine can have a different impact on everyone, so if it makes you anxious or anxious, it's best to avoid it."

He also suggested stopping coffee consumption in the middle of the afternoon so he could sleep well at night.

"Caffeine has a half-life of about five to six hours, meaning if you drink coffee at 3 pm, half of the caffeine content is still in the body until 9 pm. For those who are sensitive to caffeine, you should avoid drinking coffee after 2'3 pm so they don't interfere with sleep," he said.

Turning to caffeineless coffee may seem like a safe choice for those sensitive to caffeine, but Nichola warns that this is not completely safe.

"Coffinless coffee still contains little caffeine," he said.

"Although it is unlikely that it will affect sleep for most people, it is very sensitive to caffeine. You still have to be careful when drinking caffeineless coffee ahead of bedtime," he added.

Although there is a warning about a limited coffee drink time, there is good news for coffee lovers because research continues to show potential benefits.

The latest study by Prof Nicholas Harvey at the NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Center shows that drinking up to three cups of coffee per day can be attributed to better heart health and reduced risk of death from all causes.

However, it seems that drinking is not excessive but still key. The study shows those who drink more than three cups have a healthier heart, but do not automatically experience a reduced risk of death.

Prof. Harvey, a reumatologist and clinical epidemiologist, expressed his interest in these findings.

"The findings of this study are interesting, and provide further support for current recommendations," he explained.

"Further research is needed to find out whether there are direct benefits from coffee to health or whether these findings are only the result of various health factors and other lifestyles related to coffee drinking habits, which in turn may affect health outcomes." he added.
