Puan Asks To Maximize Civil Protection In The Aftermath Of The KKB Attack In Papua

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, expressed her concern over the attack on the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Yahukimo Regency, Papua, which caused a teacher to die. He asked the government to maximize the protection of civilians.

Puan initially expressed her deep sorrow for the passing of a teacher in Papua due to the attack in Yahukimo Regency, Papua. He stated that the attack on civilians was an act that hurt humanity.

Puan urged the government together with the TNI and Polri to increase security in the Papua conflict area because the KKB had repeatedly carried out its actions. He hopes that similar attacks will not happen again.

"The DPR urges the government and security forces to increase security in conflict-prone areas such as Yahukimo," said Puan, Monday, March 24.

Puan also asked for protection for educators and health workers in conflict areas to be a serious concern. "The state must ensure that security in conflict-prone areas is optimal, including in strategic locations such as schools and health centers," he said.

"Protecting civilians, including educators and health workers, must be maximized and become a top priority", continued Puan.

According to Puan, the attack on civilians was a violation of human rights, and hindered development in Papua.

"This is an inhumane act and hinders development efforts in Papua. Teachers and health workers are humanitarian heroes who must be protected, not victims of violence," said Puan.

On the other hand, Puan encouraged the government to provide more detailed clarity regarding the fatalities. The reason is, there are various different statements where there are those who say that only one teacher died, but there are also those who say 6 or 7 teachers and health workers are victims of death.

"There must be a more accurate explanation," said Puan.

Puan also hopes that there will be security guarantees for the people in Papua. Puan reminded that many civilians have been victims of KKB violence.

"People in Papua have the right to live safely, without fear of attacks by armed groups," said Puan.

In addition, Puan requested that education and health services in Yahukimo continue. He assessed that a holistic approach must also be taken in order to reduce the potential for conflict.

"The approach that combines security with development and community empowerment programs to reduce the root of the conflict problem must continue to be intensified," said Puan.

Puan also asked for psychological support with psychosocial assistance for survivors and the families of the victims who died. He also invited all parties to jointly support peace and development efforts in Papua.

"We hope that this incident will be a momentum to strengthen our commitment to creating a safe, peaceful and prosperous Papua," said Puan.
