Bilbao Vs Atletico Madrid 2-1: Simeone's Troops Return Empty-handed From San Mames
JAKARTA - Atletico Madrid slipped at the San Mames Stadium, the home of Athletic Bilbao. Diego Simeone's men lost 1-2 in Week 32 of the Spanish League which took place on Sunday night (Monday morning, western Indonesia time).
Home team Bilbao opened the scoring when the game was only eight minutes old thanks to a goal from Alex Berenguer, as reported by Antara according to the official Spanish League website.
Starting from Ander Capa's cross that hit Atletico's backline, Berenguer welcomed the ball in the penalty box by driving it into the goal. Bilbao leading 1-0.
Behind one goal, Atletico tried to catch up. Yannick Carrasco almost scored in the 10th minute with a header, unfortunately, the ball was pushed over by goalkeeper Unai Simon.
Bilbao had a golden opportunity to double the lead in the 32nd minute when Asier Villalibre shot the ball in the penalty box, unfortunately, the ball was cleared by Jan Oblak and produced a corner.
No additional goals were scored until halftime. The first half closed with a position of 1-0 for Bilbao.

Entering the second half, Atletico stepped on the gas to catch up. In the 53rd minute, Marcos Llorente spreads a threat with a shot at Bilbao's goal, but still to no avail after the ball goes wide.
Atletico finally equalized in the 77th minute. Stefan Savic breaks into Bilbao's goal with a header after welcoming Carrasco's cross. The position changed 1-1.
The hosts scored their second goal four minutes before normal time ended. Inigo Martinez beat Oblak with a header after maximizing Ibai Gomez's corner.
Score 2-1 for Bilbao lasted until the match ended. Atletico had to come home empty-handed from the San Mames Stadium.
With this result, Atletico failed to distance themselves from the pursuit of Real Madrid and Barcelona in the Spanish League standings. Los Colchoneros are still at the top with 73 points or only two points ahead of Los Blancos and Los Cules.
Meanwhile, Bilbao rose to 10th place with 41 points. Los Leones still have one game left to play.
