The 2025 National Vesak At Borobudur Temple Unites Harmoni And Spirituality

JAKARTA - Vesak Celebration in Indonesia is a sacred moment for Buddhists who are always held solemnly.

One of the largest celebration centers is Borobudur Temple, which is the venue for various series of religious and cultural events.

Vesak is not only a spiritual celebration, but also a reflection and a form of respect for human values and togetherness.

Deputy Chairperson of the 2025 National Vesak Committee, Karuna Murdaya, announced that this year's National Vesak celebration will fall on May 12, 2025 and will be centered at Borobudur Temple.

"We support Borobudur Temple as a spiritual tourist destination. We also invite the Minister to attend and give a speech at the 2025 National Vesak celebration," said Karuna Murdaya in Jakarta, Friday.

This statement was made during a meeting with the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar, who was accompanied by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Religion Kamaruddin Amin and the Director General of Bimas Buddha Supriyadi.

Karuna added that this year's Vesak commemoration is predicted to be attended by more than 150,000 participants, who will also witness the release of the lanterns at the peak of the celebration night.

Various series of religious events were also held, such as social service activities aimed at 8,000 people in the form of free health services.

In addition, the Vesak procession will start from the Mendut Temple to Borobudur Temple, and a lantern festival will be held on the main stage of Borobudur as part of the celebration.

"Bhikkhu, Sangha, and Buddhist leaders really hope for the Minister's presence at this National Vesak event," he added.

Previously, the Indonesian Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar appealed to Buddhists to maintain the sacredness of the Vesak commemoration, especially in the sacred ceremony that took place at Borobudur Temple.

"I hope that Vesak will continue to maintain its sacred element. Do not let the aspect of the celebration stand out more than its spiritual meaning. The depth of the appreciation of the meaning of Vesak is much more important," said the Minister of Religion.

According to him, one way to strengthen the meaning of Vesak is to turn on the lamp in the hearts of the people.

"When a person finishes worshiping, the light in his heart must remain burning. Do not let the sacred meaning of religion mix with things that do not reflect Buddhist teachings," he concluded.
