Once A KPK Spokesperson, This Is The Reason Febri Diansyah Joins Hasto Kristiyanto's Legal Team

JAKARTA - Former spokesman for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Febri Diansyah is now one of the attorneys of the Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto in the trial against the KPK.

Febri explained the reason he decided to join the defense of Hasto in the trial of alleged interim replacement bribery (PAW) for members of the DPR and the obstruction of the investigation.

After resigning from the KPK in October 2020, Febri had a full career as an advocate. So, when there was an offer to become Hasto's attorney, Febri studied the case.

"If it is related to us entering the legal team, the trial process for this subject case, of course there has been a discussion before and we will study it first," said Febri at the PDIP DPP office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, March 12.

From the cases he studied, Febri saw that there was no Hasto role in the bribery case of former General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and the obstruction to the investigation of fugitive Harun Masiku.

At point 25, the indictment accused Hasto Kristiyanto of providing Rp400 million through Kusnadi to Donny Tri Istiqomah, which in the end was given to Wahyu Setiawan.

However, the decision number 18 with the defendant Saiful Bahri, one of the convicts in the bribery case, stated that the source of the funds was Harun Masiku, not Hasto Kristiyanto.

"In the court's decision with permanent legal force for the 3 defendants, it is actually very clear that there is no role for Pak Hasto which then can make Mr. Hasto charged as a bribe," he explained.

"After we learned that, then we are quite sure that this case should be tested in detail and in detail in the trial process later," explained Febri.

PDIP has prepared 17 lawyers or attorneys to accompany the Secretary-General of the PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto in the inaugural trial of alleged interim bribery (PAW) for members of the DPR and the obstruction of the investigation.

On Friday, March 14, the prosecutor will read out the indictment in the courtroom of Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Hatta at the Jakarta District Court (PN) at 09.00 WIB.

As a reminder, Hasto Kristiyanto was named a suspect by the KPK in the case of alleged interim replacement bribery (PAW) that ensnared former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and his fugitive, Harun Masiku. He was charged with Donny Tri Istiqomah who is a PDIP cadre as well as a lawyer.

Then, Hasto was also named a suspect in the alleged obstruction of the investigation. He is suspected of obstructing the legal process, one of which is because he asked Harun to damage his cellphone and run away after the KPK's arrest operation (OTT) was carried out in 2020.
