Minister Karding Meets Hungarian Ambassador, Affirms Cooperation Requirements With Placement Countries

JAKARTA - Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Minister (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding held an audience with Hungarian Ambassador Lilla Karsay. The two discussed cooperation in the placement of migrant workers to improving the quality of protection.

The meeting between the two state officials took place at the KemenP2MI office, Jakarta on Wednesday, March 13, noon.

"You have to improve the quality of protection for migrant workers. The second is to improve the skills of migrant workers with the aim of opening a workspace as well as efforts to obtain state foreign exchange," said Karding.

During the meeting, Karding also stated that he would cooperate with a country if the destination country had good rules. Especially regarding protection and can provide guarantees for Indonesian migrant workers.

The first is to have laws and regulations about workers. The second must have a good protection concept for workers, then the third is to provide guarantees," he said.

Hungary is one of the countries that has these rules. Thus, the Indonesian government wants to establish cooperation regarding the placement of migrant workers. Moreover, there are already hundreds of Indonesian migrant workers who have worked in the country.

"We also appreciate that there has been cooperation with the Hungarian country, hopefully in the future we can improve it," said Minister Karding.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Ambassador Lilla Karsay said an audience was held to discuss opportunities for further cooperation regarding the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in his country. This is because Hungary has 50 thousand foreign workers in need.

"I understand that the issue of guest workers is very important considering the need from Hungary itself is around 50 thousand people and last year 2022 we had an audience and met with the Head of BP2MI to talk about this," said Lilla Karsay.

Lilla Karsay revealed that Hungarian businessmen initially felt worried about differences in the Muslim worker culture. However, said Lilla Karsay, after Indonesian migrant workers worked, Hungarian businessmen were satisfied.

So he expressed his gratitude from the testimonials of users who used Indonesian workers. At first they were very worried because of religious differences, because many Indonesian workers were Muslim and there were non-Muslims. But it turns out that everything is fine, Indonesian workers are hard workers, and can adapt, and the relationship is very good and harmonious with them. So the appreciation is quite high for entrepreneurs in Hungary," said Lilla Karsay.
