MenLH Encourages The Presence Of Air Quality Monitoring Stations In Industrial Estates
JAKARTA - Minister of Environment (MenLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq asked his staff to land air quality monitoring stations in industrial areas as one of the steps to suppress air polluting sources in Jakarta and its surroundings.
"We have asked the Deputy for Control of Pollution and Environmental Damage to then try to land an air quality monitoring station on the scale of these industrial areas. This is an indicator," said LH Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in the opening of the N and O categories motor vehicle emission monitoring collaboration activity in North Jakarta, Tuesday, March 11, which was confiscated by Antara.
"Later on, when the indicators are bad, I will go down to industries which according to our indications cause the ambient air to be disrupted," added Hanif.

He reminded industry players that if it is proven to have exceeded the ambient air quality standard, then in accordance with Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management, it can be subject to imprisonment and a fine of billions of rupiah.
Given that air pollution in the areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) will affect the health of the 30 million people living in the area, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children.
Hanif promised to take a number of concrete steps to address the pollution issue, overcome air pollution sources from both the transportation, industrial, waste burning sectors openly and other factors.
Previously, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry had carried out environmental surveillance of a number of industries in Jabodetabek that were suspected of being polluters and encouraged emission tests for goods transport vehicles and cooperating vehicles including trucks in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation, the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta and the Police.
