Floods Hit A Number Of Villages In Probolinggo
ProBOLINGGO - Head of the Probolinggo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) R. Oemar Sjarief said floods hit several villages in three sub-districts in Probolinggo Regency, East Java, causing settlements to be submerged.
"The heavy rain that flushed Probolinggo Regency caused the river to overflow, submerging residential areas in several villages," he told reporters in Probolinggo as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, March 11.
Data compiled by BPBD Probolinggo noted that floods hit several villages spread over three sub-districts, namely Krejengan, Pajarakan and Maron sub-districts, but the worst conditions were in Krejengan District.
"Information while flooding hit six villages in Krejengan District, namely Opo-opo Village, Jatiurip Village, Patemon Village, Kamalkuning Village, Tanjung Sari Village, and Krejengan Village," he said.
Meanwhile, in Pajarakan District, floods hit Ketompen Village, Selogudig Wetan Village and Selogudung Kulon, and in Maron District there was a flood in Brani wetan Village.
Floods began to inundate residential areas due to the Rondoningo River overflowing because it was unable to accommodate water when heavy rains flushed Probolinggo Regency, causing water to gradually enter people's homes, causing panic.
"We conducted an assessment and evacuated a number of residents who were trapped in the flood to be taken to a safe place by rubber boat. Data collection continues," he said.
