Hamas Claims To Be Flexible In Gaza Negotiations, Asks Israel To Continue To The Second Stage

JAKARTA - Palestinian militant group Hamas said it had shown "flexibility" in negotiations on a ceasefire agreement with mediators, awaiting the outcome of efforts from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States in negotiations with Israel.

Hamas said negotiations focused on stopping the war, withdrawing Israeli troops from Gaza, and rebuilding the Gaza Strip.

Israel will send delegations to Doha, Qatar today for a new round of negotiations on the extension of the ceasefire in Gaza Strip Gaza.

Last weekend, delegations of Hamas groups arrived in Cairo, Egypt for talks on implementing the provisions of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and pushing for second-stage negotiations, the Egyptian State Information Service said, citing Xinhua.

Egypt held intensive talks with Hamas leaders, as well as US and Qatar mediators, to continue implementing the ceasefire and begin the second phase of the deal, according to the statement.

The three-stage Gaza ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, came into effect on January 19. Negotiations for the second phase of the deal are still stalled after the early stages of 42 days ended on March 1.

Talks about potential second phase requirements should have started on February 3, but Israel has largely refused to engage in it.
