Minister Faisol Reveals President Targets 100 Percent Waste Management By 2029
JAKARTA - Minister of Environment (MenLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said Presidential Government Prabowo Subianto targets waste management to reach 100 percent by 2029.
"The President targets us to handle the waste rate 100 percent in 2029," said Faisol at a press conference at the Office of the Ministry of Environment in Jakarta, Monday, March 10, which was confiscated by Antara.
The target is to be outlined in the new government's National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). One of the efforts to achieve this new target is the closure of the final processing site (TPA) which is still carrying out open disposal or open dumping.
The plan is to close the open dumping system to be carried out at 343 TPA in a number of locations, with the first stage closing the open dumping system at 37 TPA and targeted for completion in the next six months.
The target was given after the government had previously set a target for waste management to be achieved 100 percent by 2025, in accordance with Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 97 of 2017 concerning National Policy and Strategy (Jaktranas) for Management of Household Waste and Waste Like Household Waste.

Hanif admits that this target has not been achieved this year because the achievement of waste management has only reached 39.01 percent based on the latest data that does not enter data on waste that goes to open dumping TPA.
"This year we are given a 50 percent target, even though our waste management achievement is only 39 percent," he said.
According to KLH's National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) data, the emergence of national waste that has been reported from 301 districts/cities shows that a total of 32.6 million tons of waste is produced throughout 2024. Of this amount, 40.34 percent of waste is still in the unmanaged category.
