KLH Prepares Civil Lawsuit For Parties Suspected Of Triggering Jakarta Floods

PURWAKARTA - All parties who are considered to be the trigger for flooding that occurred in Jakarta and its surroundings some time ago need to prepare for the civil lawsuit of the Ministry of Environment (KLH) which is currently being prepared.

Minister of Environment and Forestry Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in Purwakarta, Saturday said that his party had sent a forced self-dismantling letter to four parties located in the Ciliwung and Bekasi watersheds, which were considered to be the triggers of flooding.

"However, it does not stop here, we are also preparing steps for a civil lawsuit related to entities that have caused flooding, both in the Ciliwung watershed and in the Bekasi watershed," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, March 8.

Minister Hanif assessed that the two watersheds played a vital role in the lives of people living downstream, so that law enforcement related to them must be strengthened.

"So, these two watersheds are different and both cause quite serious losses. The government must do it carefully to restore and recover this. We can no longer just narrate, but we must develop concrete and concrete actions," he said.

Minister LH emphasized that in this case all parties must be reminded, because all of them have the same legal position in order to enforce the joints of environmental governance that have a lot of influence on the lives of people living downstream.

"So, friends who happen to be in the landscape or from the topography or from the system (in the area) above, the upper environmental guard system, we are obliged to maintain the environment to prepare environmental ecosystem services to the lower layers. So, in the Ciliwung watershed, Bekasi watershed, this is below live 31 million people, and we must protect it," he said.

In this effort, Minister Hanif also stated that his party would conduct further studies on the potential of 33 tenants or other tenants located upstream of the Ciliwung and Bekasi watersheds.

He also said that his party was discussing with the West Java Provincial Government to re-investigate business units in the upstream watershed area to take handling steps to restore the function of upstream rivers.

"There is no other word, we are obliged to restore this landscape, if we don't want the flood to continue and hit a lot of material and mental losses." said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq
