Zelenskyy And German Chancellor Discuss Trump's Role In Ukraine Peace Negotiations

JAKARTA - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the role of US President Donald Trump in negotiations to achieve peace in the three-year war in Kyiv with Russia.

Both agreed on the importance of the US president's leadership role, as well as with the aim of achieving a ceasefire and lasting peace for Ukraine, a spokesman for the German government said.

Following the phone call, Zelenskyy said in X, she had an honest conversation about various issues and our vision for future security architecture with Scholz.

Zelenskyy previously made sure he was ready to work under the leadership of the US president to realize lasting peace after Washington stopped military aid to Kyiv, following Zelenskyay-Trump negotiations that brought disaster last week.

"We all want a safe future for our people. Not a temporary ceasefire, but an end to the war forever. With our coordinated efforts and US leadership, this is completely achievable," Zelenskyy said after a telephone conversation with Scholz.

Scholz also reiterated Germany's continued and immovable solidarity with Ukraine, the spokesman added.

On Tuesday, Zelenskyy also held a phone call with chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss further cooperation.
