Prabowo-Macron Decides RI-France To Strengthen Partnership In Science

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron have decided to strengthen the partnership between the two countries, especially in the field of science.

This was conveyed by the French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone in a brief interview in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 5.

Penone said that scientific cooperation in the maritime sector of the two countries is a real example of strengthening cooperation in the field of science.

We can also learn a lot from Indonesia. Scientific experience, scientific expertise on marine resources, about marine management," said Penone, confiscated by Antara.

The French ambassador also said Indonesia and France could work together in more fields other than the scientific field, such as cultural cooperation, investment, trade.

The French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union (EU) signed a Contribution Agreement that delegated EU grant management to AFD and the Indonesian Government on Wednesday in Jakarta.

The AFD signed two grant agreements with a total value of 7 million euros or around Rp. 121.5 billion, funded by the EU, to support the cooperation program For Evidence-Based and Sustainable Marine Management.

The EU grant managed by the AFD is part of a broader effort by the European Team under the Global Gateway initiative to advance sustainable marine management.

Of the total grants, 3.55 million euros or IDR 61.6 billion will fund activities led by the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), while 3.45 million euros or around IDR 59.8 billion will finance initiatives by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

The EU funding complements two AFD loans of 187.6 million euros or around Rp3.25 trillion previously, namely 98.6 million euros or Rp1.7 trillion for environmentally friendly fishery port projects to modernize four fishing ports in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, BRIN's 89 million euros or around IDR 1.5 trillion for KrisNa Project to obtain two sophisticated multidisciplinary research vessels.

The grant will support continued training, data collection on biodiversity and marine climates, restoration of coastal ecosystems, and steps to reduce environmental footprint of port activities and will be carried out for five years.
