Genting, Quick Wins Stunting Reduction Stunting Strategy Of The Ministry Of Education And Culture

JAKARTA - In the range of 2020-2045 there will be a demographic bonus, and around 190.98 million or 70.72% of Indonesians are in productive age. However, there is a challenge in this demographic bonus, which is estimated to be only 69.1 million out of 190.98 million that contributed to state revenues.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Population and Family Development/Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (Kemenduk bangga/BKKBN), Dr. Wihaji, S.Ag., M.Pd, in the #102 KORPRI Webinar Series Greeting ASN with the theme Strategy for Accelerating Stunting Reduction on March 4, 2025 which was held online through Zoom and Youtube of the National CORPRI Management Board.

Minister Wihaji said that the data was the reason stunting needed to be overcome, and this was what encouraged the Ministry of Education and Culture/BKKBN to carry out Quick Wins, one of which was the Foster Parental Movement to Prevent Stunting (Genting).

There is a survey that states that Indonesians like to help even if they don't know the person. This is where the idea of Genting emerged, "Minister Wihaji continued, 'This tail is an effort to involve the Indonesian people who have sustenance to help.'

Minister Wihaji said that from the data held by the Ministry of Education and Culture/BKKBN, there are 8.6 million Stunting Risk Families (KRS) and the Genting target is 1 million KRS which will focus on the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK) because stunting management must be carried out with the prevention of stunting itself, starting from a period of simplicity, pregnancy, to the age of 2 years of children.

In this period, Free Nutrition Food (MBG) is present for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers, Minister Wihaji added, That's an extraordinary factor in my opinion, the state is present, the government is present, Mr. Prabowo is very wise about this field condition. The hope is that MBG will be one solution to dealing with stunting.

In line with Minister Wihaji's statement, Deputy for Promotion and Cooperation of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dr. Drs. Nyoto Suwignyo, MM, said that pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children under five were included in the MBG target group.

"MBG includes targeting nutrition for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers because this needs attention both for stunting and for the next growth interests, and helping the family's economy," said Nyoto.

Nutrition for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers is a type of Genting intervention in the form of providing complete food ready for eating or snacks rich in animal protein and nutritional adequacy for stunting prevention.

Minister Wihaji explained that BGN has supported nutrition, namely the provision of MBG for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers. Meanwhile, the task of the Ministry of Education and Culture/BKKBN is to distribute.

"Because it is impossible for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers to be collected every day. We have a Family Assistance Team (TPK) that will distribute food to the field," explained Minister Wihaji.

In his presentation, Minister Wihaji also conveyed other Genting interventions, namely non-nutrition which include repairs to latrines/MCK, habitable houses, access to clean water, as well as prevention education (wednes, brides-to-be, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers).

For the non-nutrition menu, several corporations have prepared assistance, for example clean water. We have collaborated with several SOEs including PTPN to prepare clean water assistance because the cause of stunting in several cities is no clean water, such as in Papua Mountains and parts of NTT," said Minister Wihaji.

It was also conveyed in Minister Wihaji's presentation that the number of partners or foster parents is currently 20,181 people, including BUMN/BUMD, NGOs/communities/people, media, private sector, and universities/academics.

The Foster Parents can come from corporations, individuals, can be KORPRI, not binding, Minister Wihaji also invited KORPRI to participate in Genting.

Minister Wihaji's invitation looks like a tit for tat because previously the General Chairperson of the National CORPRI Management Board, Prof. Dr. Zudan Arif Fakrulloh, SH, MH, said that in the Keynote Speech, it is hoped that all KORPRI administrators and members will support stunting handling with a massive movement from the KORPRI.

Zudan assessed that stunting management is an important program and is a national priority that must be handled together, not only being a burden for the Ministry of Education and Culture/BKKBN.

My experience three times served as Governor (Pj) in Gorontalo, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, we need to move together," Zudan added, "From the KORPRI fully supports this stunting handling effort."

Through this Genting, Minister Wihaji hopes to save the nation's generation, "Approximately this is the spirit, saving 1 Indonesian human being is the same as saving 1 generation," concluded Wihaji.
