Deputy for Law Enforcement (Gakkum) KLH Rizal Irawan said his party is currently taking legal action against the illegal TPA Limo in Depok City and the Caringin Market Temporary Disposal Site (TPS) in Bandung, West Java.
"The hope is to provide a deterrent effect to illegal TPA perpetrators and there will no longer be other illegal TPA-TPA in Indonesia," Rizal said in Jakarta, Thursday, February 27, which was confiscated by Antara.
"Because the illegal TPA is what is certain is that they are not managed properly so that it can cause environmental damage and also threaten people's health and life," he added.
He gave an example of how the illegal TPA in Limo District had an extraordinary impact on the environment. The TPA, which operates without permission for years, not only builds up waste that causes landslides but also open combustion (open burning) which is suspected of contributing to air pollution around the area.
As a result of the illegal TPA located on an area of 3.75 hectares, residents around the illegal TPA also reported experiencing negative impacts, including experiencing respiratory problems such as acute respiratory infection (ARI).
