Jokowi Founds A Party, PDIP Constituent Is Getting More And More Determinated

JAKARTA The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has discussed the formation of a new party as his political vehicle after not having power. In Jokowi's imagination, the political party will have a concept like an open company by calling the party the Super Tbk Party.

"It's still being calculated, it's still being calculated. It's not necessarily realized. I want the political party to be owned by all members later. But everything is still in maturation," said Jokowi in an interview with Najwa Shihab on Najwa Shihab's YouTube channel.

Political observer from Mulawarman University, Budiman assessed, if the formation of a new political party is realized, Jokowi's figure will further erode the PDI-P constituents. This is because Jokowi's new political party will certainly target segments that intersect with PDIP voters who have nationalist ideology and a Javanese voter support base.

Jokowi's party has the potential to erode PDIP's voice. Jokowi's contingent is still intersecting with the PDIP voter base. In terms of character and not to mention it is still from one uterus with PDIP. Of course, it will erode the PDIP voter segment," he said, Sunday, February 23, 2025.

The constituent base is Jokowi's supporters, both wong cilik and Java, who have been the PDIP voter base. In the last Central Java Pilkada, Jokowi's influence was very clear with Mega. Jokowi won the political match," he continued.

However, he doubts that Jokowi's party will become an open party. According to Budiman, Jokowi will also build a political dynasty in the political parties as a political vehicle for Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Moreover, both Jokowi and Gibran are considered figures who have strong political magnets.

In addition, the majority of political parties in Indonesia rely on the figure of a figure as an glue, not on ideology. On the one hand, a party based on figures or figures can be more solid in uniting cadres, but on the other hand weak in leadership regeneration, because the circulation of party elites tends to dwell on the family.

"Strong party figures can make politicians move because they see other parties that are considered more able to open a more definite political career," concluded Budiman.
