Polda Metro Jaya Bans Bus Using 'Tellolet' Klakson, The Reason Is Pressing Accident Risk

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya prohibits buses from using vehicle horns that do not match the technical specifications on the highway, one of which is the "telelet" horn.

"This is stated in the Telegram Letter of the National Police Chief Number ST/356/III/HUK.1.2/2024 which was issued as an effort to reduce the risk of accidents due to the use of horns with too loud a sound," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Police Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi in his statement in Jakarta, Friday, February 21, confiscated by Antara.

Ade also reminded that the use of horns that did not meet the technical specifications (spectek) was a violation of the law.

In accordance with Article 285 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 22 Year 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, vehicles are required to meet technical and roadworthy requirements, including in terms of using horns.

"Violations of this rule can be subject to sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations," he said.

He also explained that in the telegram letter, the National Police highlighted the rise of vehicles, especially buses that use horns that do not match the spectra.

This excessive horning not only disturbs other motorists, but also often attracts the attention of children who catch up or block the bus to honk the horn.

Ade Ary said the phenomenon was at high risk of causing accidents, even some incidents had claimed lives.

"In addition to disturbing the concentration of other motorists, the sound of horns that are too loud also has the potential to cause traffic jams," he said.

Then the large number of people who gather to record or take pictures with vehicles that have horns can inhibit traffic flow.

"More than that, motorists or pedestrians who deliberately block the vehicle to ask for horns are actually at risk of an accident," he said.

The use of "telet" horns is also one of the targeted in Operation Keselamatan Jaya 2025. Until the 10th day of the operation, there were 21 buses that used "telelet" horns.
