Lebanese Demo Bakar Ban In The Aftermath Of 2 Iranian Planes Prohibited From Landing In Beirut
JAKARTA - Lebanese people carried out a tire burn following the blocking of access to Beirut's Raff Hariri International Airport Area on Thursday, February 13 local time.
The crowd staged a protest following the ban on the two Iranian planes from landing in the Lebanese capital.
"The youths burned tires in front of the airport entrance, waving banners supporting former Secretary General Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah," said Lebanese National News Agency, quoted from AFP, Friday, February 14.
A number of demonstrators waved the Hezbollah yellow flag and held photos of Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli attack in September 2024, as well as Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander Qasem Soleimani.
Lebanese troops have been deployed to secure the mass action.
In an online video received by AFP, there was a fight between angry protesters and security forces.
An official at Raff Hariri International Airport said that the ban was conveyed by the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation of Lebanon to two Mahan Air planes on the Iranian-Beirut route.
Officials in Lebanon who asked for their identities to be kept secret revealed that the planes from Iran were each scheduled to land in Beirut on Thursday and today, Friday.
"The two flights are rescheduled for next week," the official said without giving a basis for the ban.
