Fishing Boat Sinks In Pekalongan, One Person Dies, 2 Disappears

PEMALANG - Basarnas Pemalang SAR Alert Unit, Central Java, reported that one fisherman was found dead, two people have not been found.

Meanwhile, 15 other fishermen survived the incident when the fishing boat sank in Wonokerto waters, Pekalongan Regency.

The Coordinator of the Pemalang Basarnas SAR Alert Unit, Susanto, said the coordinates of the location of the KM Sumber Rizqi incident sank in the western part of Pekalongan waters.

"Temporary suspicion, KM. Rizqi's source suffered a leak and drowned. The number of passengers was 18 fishermen, one was found dead, two people are still being searched, and 15 people are safe," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 12.

These victims were evacuated by a Pemalang fishing boat that was fishing around the waters north of Wonokerto, Pekalongan Regency.

Based on information, KM Sumber Rizqi departed from the Pier where the Batang Regency Fish Auction was on Tuesday (11/2) afternoon and sailed to the waters north of Wonokerto.

Then, on Wednesday (12/2) morning, the crew carried out a sowing of nets or trawlers into the sea but when they finished sowing the nets and started a sudden draw of nets at the stern of the ship swayed and capsized.

When the incident occurred, the crew tried to save themselves by swimming closer to four ships from Pemalang who were in the vicinity of the incident.

The Pemalang fishermen immediately provided assistance and evacuated the victims to the Ulujami Fish Auction Place, Pemalang Regency.

"We are still searching for the two victims who are still missing," he said.

The captain of the Motor Ship, Sumber Rizqi Dono (43), said that when he departed, the condition of the ship was fine and there were no problems. Meanwhile, the condition of the sea waves is also not too high.

"Yes, the ship felt it was starting to fall when it was about to pull the net. Suddenly the back was full of water so the ship immediately sank," he said.
