JAKARTA - A Libyan country minister survived an assassination attempt when gunmen opened fire on his car in the capital Tripoli.

The National Unity Government (GNU) based in Tripoli strongly condemned the attack.

They said an unidentified group shot directly into the vehicle of State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Adel Juma when the vehicle was traveling on the highway.

Juma's health condition is stable. Security authorities have conducted an investigation to uncover the state of the incident and track down the culprit, "said a GNU statement.

GNU under Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah was inaugurated through a UN-backed process in 2021.

Libya's oil-rich country has been in political turmoil and has witnessed several conflicts since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in a NATO-backed uprising in 2011.
