General Andika's Reaction When He Learned That Kopasus Members Had Been Beaten
JAKARTA - The Chief of Army Staff General TNI Andika Perkasa said that his party was conducting an internal examination of a Kopassus soldier who was involved in the beatings in the Kebayoran area, South Jakarta on Sunday, April 18 until he was injured in the head.
"What are they doing there? We have to be objective, what is the role of other people's criminal acts to be processed, we keep on guarding them", said Andika as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 21.
He said he could not cover up what his soldiers had done on Sunday morning at that location.
Therefore, his party will investigate why this Kopassus member could be involved in the assault in the South Jakarta area.
Andika ensures that if the ranks will continue to guard this case until it meets a bright spot. The escort also includes the Commander of the Indonesian Army Military Police Center, Pangdam Jaya, to the Director of Law for the Army.
"The point is that the process is guarded starting from the Central Military Police Commander, Assistant Intelligence to The Chief of Army Staff, Director of Law for the Army, then those under the direct responsibility of the Pangdam Jaya. We will find out exactly what happened", he said.
The former Commander of the Army's Strategic Reserves Command said that his party also continues to coordinate with Jakarta Metro Police, which is handling the muggings case.
"We continue to coordinate closely with the Police for the perpetrators. We have to be objective, what is the role of other people's criminal acts must be processed. We continue to monitor how it is handled", he said.
On that occasion, Andika revealed the current condition of the Kopassus members who were beaten up. According to him, the soldier was seriously injured and was still receiving medical treatment.
"What is clear is that there is a fracture in the skull so that the injury is quite severe. This is what I received just yesterday morning, maybe his current condition hasn't improved too much", he said.
Previously, a member of the Indonesian Army with the initials DB was injured, and a police member with the initials YSB died after allegedly being the victim of beatings by an unidentified person.
The beatings took place in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta on Sunday, April 18 morning.
