Approved By The DPR To Enter Prolegnas, Coordinating Minister For Kumham Imipas Prepares Draft Sea Security Bill
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Menko Kumham and Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra said Commission I of the DPR agreed to include the Draft Law on Maritime Security into the priority national legislation program (Prolegnas).
Yusril stated that his party would prepare a draft Law on Maritime Security to strengthen the security of Indonesian waters.
This was conveyed by Yusril after a working meeting with Commission I of the DPR and Deputy Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security (Menko Polkam), Lodewijk F Paulus, Tuesday, February 11.
"That today it is agreed that the two Coordinating Ministers and Commission I will initiate a draft draft of this marine security law. And it must begin with changes to the prolegnas, including the marine security bill as a priority for discussion in 2024-2029," said Yusril at the Parliament Complex, Senayan , Jakarta, Tuesday, February 11th
"And if the President approves and orders us at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Human Rights, Imipas to draft this bill, God willing, in just a few months, God willing, a draft bill can be prepared to be agreed upon," he continued.
If the government has started submitting, Yusril believes that Commission I of the DPR will also be ready to discuss this bill.
Because according to him, the discussion of the bill is very important because as an archipelagic country, Coast Guard Indonesia is still very weak compared to other countries.
"Indeed, there are many cases around Natuna waters, where there are coast guards from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, other countries. But compared to those our coast guard turned out to be weak and I think it is our obligation to fix this," said the constitutional law expert. that.

Yusril said that so far the laws and regulations regarding the authorities in securing the sea have overlapped. Such as the existence of Bakamla, Polairud, the Indonesian Navy and so on so that there needs to be an institution that can also handle investigations into criminal cases at sea.
"And I think we have to fix it immediately in terms of institutions and in terms of regulations. So we also have the authority to enforce the law at sea. But not in terms of defense of war security," said Yusril.
"Hopefully in the not too distant future we will be able to prepare a draft. This draft law on maritime security," he concluded.
