Government And Media Synergize To Build Quality Information Ecosystems
JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasized the importance of synergy between the government and the media in building a quality, credible and responsible information ecosystem. This was conveyed during a working visit to KG Media at the Kompas Jakarta Tower, Friday 7 February.
"The media is not just a messenger, but also a strategic partner of the government in conveying policies to the public," said Meutya.
The Minister of Trade emphasized that effective public communication must be a priority before the policy is implemented. According to him, the role of the media is very important in ensuring that the information circulating can be trusted.
"Before a policy is implemented, the public must understand its essence. The media has a crucial role in bridging communication between the government and the community," he said.
Meutya assessed that the role of the media was not only to convey information, but also to be a forum for the public to voice their aspirations and criticize government policies. He also said that the government was open to accepting criticism.
"Criticism is important because good policies must be based on constructive dialogue with the community," he explained.
Such a dialogue, he continued, would help ensure that the policies taken were relevant and in accordance with the expectations of the people. Meutya also reminded that the government's openness to criticism is part of efforts to improve policy quality.
"The government is ready to accept criticism, because good policies must depart from dialogue with the community. The media plays an important role in conveying various perspectives and ensuring that policies run according to people's needs. This synergy must be strengthened so that information spaces in Indonesia are healthier and more useful," he said.
