Three Former North Sumatra UIN Officials Charged With Corruption BLU Funds Rp1.75 Billion

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati North Sumatra) charged three former State Islamic University (UIN) officials with corruption in funds from the Public Service Agency (BLU) which cost the state finances amounting to Rp1.75 billion.

"The defendants committed corruption together with the use of BLU funds for business capital down payment at the North Sumatra UIN Center for Business Development for the 2020 fiscal year," said Public Prosecutor of the North Sumatra Attorney General's Office Anggia at the Corruption Court at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, Thursday, February 6, as reported by ANTARA.

The three defendants, he continued, namely Saidurrahman as the former Chancellor of North Sumatra UIN, then Sangkot Azhar Rambe as the former Head of the North Sumatra UIN Pusbangnis, and Moncot Harahap as the former Expenditure Treasurer.

"As a result of the actions of the three defendants, it caused state financial losses of Rp1.75 billion," he explained.

After listening to the indictment, Chief Judge Nani Sukmawati gave the three defendants the opportunity to file a memorandum of objection to the indictment of the public prosecutor or exception.

"Did the defendants file an exception on the indictment of the public prosecutor?", Judge Nani asked the three defendants.

Responding to the panel of judges' questions, the three defendants admitted that they understood the public prosecutor's indictment, and stated that they did not file an exception.

Chief Judge Nani Sukmawati postponed the trial and continued next week with the agenda of the testimony of witnesses.
