Boeing: Starliner Capai Losses Of IDR 2.4 Trillion In The Fourth Quarter Of 2024

JAKARTA Boeing has calculated their spending in the fourth quarter of last year. In accordance with the company's prediction last January, Starliner's vehicle losses have increased.

In an annual 10-K filing of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on February 3, Boeing revealed that they had spent $523 million on Starliner in the fourth quarter of last year.

Once calculated, losses in the quarter reached 148 million US dollars (Rp 2.4 trillion). When revealing the loss, Boeing said that this happened due to delays in the launch schedule and high testing costs due to system problems.

Boeing also needs to pay a fairly high cost of certification and post-certification mission costs. If totaled from previous years, the loss of the spacecraft has reached billions of US dollars (Rp32 trillion).

The cost of IDR 8.5 trillion was the highest last year. In the second quarter, Boeing only spent 125 million US dollars (IDR 2 trillion), while in the third quarter the cost reached 250 million US dollars (IDR 4 trillion).

All of these losses occurred because Starliner was experiencing problems driving and helium leakage. This problem only arose after the plane was used to transport two NASA astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).

The Starliner mission crew should have spent only a few weeks on the ISS. However, the problems that occurred to Starliner caused both crews to stay on the ISS for almost a year. The two aggrieved astronauts were Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams.
