Secretary General Of The Arab League Calls Forced Refugees Threats To Palestine's Struggle

JAKARTA - Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit stressed that forced evacuation of Palestinians poses an existential threat to the Palestinian cause.

He said Israel's goal was to make the Gaza Strip uninhabitable, thus creating scenarios that were not only unacceptable, but also to violate international law directly, reported by WAFA on February 3.

This was conveyed in a meeting with the United Nations Senior Coordinator of Humanitarian and Reconstruction for Gaza Sigrid Kaag at the headquarters of the Arab League on Sunday

During the meeting, Aboul Gheit stressed that rational and humane alternatives lie in increasing and accelerating aid efforts, while at the same time preparing for Gaza reconstruction.

On the occasion Aboul Gheit reiterated that the two-state solution remains the only way to achieve long-term peace and security for Palestinians and Israelis.

He said, without concrete efforts to establish a Palestinian State based on territorial boundaries before 1967, the region would continue to risk falling into further cycles of violence.

Discussions are also focused on the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which underscores the need to strengthen ceasefire agreements, as well as accelerate relief efforts to tackle unprecedented damage scales in the Gaza Strip.
