Screen Time Is Not Just Entertainment, It Can Be The Key To Developing Child Potential
JAKARTA - Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2024 notes that 5.88% of children under the age of 1 are already using cell phones, and 4.33% of them have accessed the internet. This fact shows that screen time is part of children's daily lives from an early age. Screen time refers to the amount of time a person spends using a device with a screen, such as a cellphone, computer, television, or tablet.
Kalbe Nutritionals, part of the Kalbe Group, through Morinaga presents a talk show entitled "Tips Fun Managing Screen Time in Children" with celebrity and health observer, Reisa Broto Asmoro. This talkshow discusses how parents can create a balance between screen time and children's social activities. In addition, Morinaga introduces innovation, Artificial Intelligence Multiple Intelligence Play Plan (AI MIPP), an artificial intelligence-based technology that helps parents identify children's potentials while making screen time more productive and educational. As a celebrity and health observer, Reisa Broto Asmoro emphasized the importance of proper screen time management.
Screen time is not something that must be avoided completely, but needs to be managed wisely in order to be useful for children's development. Parents can set clear rules, choose appropriate content, and encourage balance with other activities such as playing and creating. That way, screen time can be a means of fun learning and support children's growth and development," said Reisa.
In line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), Morinaga is committed to helping parents manage their children's screen time better. WHO recommends that children under 1 year should not be exposed to screen time at all. For children aged 1-2 years, the maximum recommended screen time is one hour per day, getting better and better. Meanwhile, children aged 3-4 years are also advised to have a maximum screen time limit of one hour, but with more interactive activities such as reading, storytelling, or playing with their parents.
Through AI MIPP Morinaga, screen time children can be utilized more productively. AI MIPP works by inviting children to join interactive gaming activities and answering 27 specifically designed questions. The data collected is then analyzed using artificial intelligence to identify their dominant intelligence and potential professions in the future. This analysis report helps parents understand their children's talents more clearly, so they can draw up more targeted and effective development plans.
We believe that the role of parents is very important in providing appropriate stimulation and care for children's growth and development. AI MIPP helps parents optimize their children's screen time more productively and education. This is in line with Morinaga's commitment to providing the best nutrition and stimulation for Indonesian children," said Gregorius Daru, Group Business Unit Head of Morinaga GUM.
