Potential For Extreme Weather, KAI Palembang Increases Vigilance Of 30 Disaster-Prone Area Points

PALEMBANG - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division III Palembang, South Sumatra increased awareness and mitigated disasters, especially at 30 disaster-prone areas because extreme weather conditions are expected to last for the next few weeks.

Public Relations Manager of KAI Divre III Palembang Aida Suryanti said that until now the passenger train in the Divre III Palembang area is still operating as usual, both the Kertapati - Lubuklinggau (PP) Station relationship and the Kertapati - Tanjung Karang (PP) relationship.

The potential for disasters in vulnerable areas is not only in the form of floods, but also the movement of soil contours that can cause landslides or collapse along the railway line.

Based on the results of the mapping of KAI infrastructure officers, there are several locations that are prone to landslides, collapsed and prone bridges.

Locations prone to landslides and collapsed include plots of roads between Niru - Belimbing Pendopo Station, Belimbing Pendopo - Gunung Megang, Penanggran - Ujanmas, Ujanmas - Muara Sugar, Muara Enim - Muara Lawai, Merapi - Sukacinta, Lahat - Bunga Mas, Bunga Mas - Saung Naga, Saung Naga - Tebing Tinggi, and Padang City - Lubuk Linggau.

"We have mapped these areas as areas prone to landslides and collapsed, so we need to be aware of the rainy season," he said as quoted by Antara, Monday, February 3.

As an effort to anticipate, KAI Divre III Palembang has prepared several steps that need to be taken, such as preparing Materials for Alert (AMUS) at 23 location points and routinely inspecting train lines manually by walking by lane inspection officers.

His party also prepared heavy equipment such as excavators and Multi Tie Tamper (MTT), namely tools for maintenance of rail roads to speed up the process of repairing train lines in the event that things that are not desirable are the impact of extreme weather conditions and installing retaining ground walls (DPT) in the form of gabion construction to prevent landslides/amblas in disaster-prone areas.

"KAI is committed to continuing to anticipate and monitor disaster-prone areas, especially in the current extreme weather conditions so that train travel is safe, safe and smooth," said Aida.
