Which Sleeping Position Is Good For Health, Telentang Or Tilting?
JAKARTA - Sleep is an important part in maintaining the health of the body and mind. Getting enough sleep for seven to nine hours every night helps maintain brain health, heart, immune system, skin, and others.
Sleep positions can affect how well you rest. However, it can worsen conditions such as back pain, snoring, stomach acid, and others.
Do you sleep on your back, tilted, or prone? maybe you're wondering which sleeping position is the healthiest. It's not clear why humans choose one sleeping position over another.
The most common sleeping position among adults is oblique sleep, both to the right and to the left. According to the Sleep Foundation, more than 60% of people prefer to sleep on the side.
The next most common sleeping position is across the face facing up, which is also called the "suppine" position.
Dr. Dianne Augelli, a specialist in sleeping medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and New-York Presbyterian, said that oblique sleep and teletang are preferred by most people.
The most rare sleeping position is prone. Research shows that less than 10% of people spend sleep in this position.
Oblique sleep or teletang is generally considered healthier than sleeping on your stomach, which is associated with various health problems, such as back pain.
"In the world of sleeping medicine, we strongly recommend oblique sleep," said Augelli, quoted by VOI from the Today page on Wednesday, January 29.

However, oblique sleep or teletang can also worsen certain conditions, such as stomach acid or shoulder problems. Meanwhile, sleeping on your stomach can be better for some people with sleep apnea.
"Not everyone has to sleep obliquely. It depends on the problems a person is experiencing," explained Augelli.
atur Harris, Psy.D., clinical psychologist and health director of sleep in Sleepopolis said generally people choose the most comfortable sleeping position.
"The position of your choice of sleep can also be influenced by the shape of the body, the type of mattress, the pillow used, and whether to share the bed," said Harris.
Once you find the most comfortable sleeping position, that position becomes a habit. However, sleeping position can also change without realizing it.
"Many people change positions throughout the night, and their sleeping positions also change over time," Harris said.
Although it is difficult to change habits, you can still train yourself to sleep in a new position.
"Finally, most people can adapt, but it takes time to get used to it," Harris said.
The most healthy sleeping position is the most comfortable and helps you sleep well.
"There is not one best way to sleep. The most important thing is a position that reduces pain and makes you feel fresh when you wake up." said Harris.
