Foreign Minister Sugiono Emphasized The Importance Of Complete Armistice Implementation In The Gaza Strip

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono stressed the importance of implementing a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip when meeting with Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud.

The meeting which was held on the sidelines of The World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday local time.

Discussing the development of the situation in Palestine, the Indonesian Foreign Minister expressed support for the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

"Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the importance of implementing a comprehensive ceasefire agreement to stop the loss of life in Gaza," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Friday, January 24.

Palestinian militant groups Hamas and Israel reached a gradual ceasefire agreement in an announcement made in Doha last Wednesday after months of indirect talks with mediation between Qatar, Egypt and the United States.

On Sunday, the deal came into effect after several hours of delay. Three Israeli female hostages were released from Gaza, following 90 Palestinian prisoners consisting of women and children released.

In addition, the bilateral meeting of the two main diplomats also discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries, plans for President Prabowo Subianto's visit to Riyadh, as well as plans for Foreign Minister Faisal's visit to Indonesia, including deliverable discussions from the visit.

It is known that this meeting was the first bilateral meeting of the two ministers since Foreign Minister Sugiono was sworn in in October 2024.
