Russian Missile-Drone Attack On Ukraine's Zaporizhia Kills 1 Person, Injures 31 Others

JAKARTA - Russia launched a drone and missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia that killed one person and injured 31 others.

Russian attacks also caused tens of thousands of residents to spend the night without electricity or heating.

Governor Ivan Fedorov said the attack destroyed energy facilities and cut power to more than 20,000 residents.

According to him, Russian troops attacked the city with drones first, then with ballistic missiles during an airstrike warning that lasted more than six hours.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said among the injured were a two-month-old baby and a rescue team that carried out the handling during the first wave of the attack.

On Thursday, January 23 morning, police and rescue workers searched the rubble of the apartment building that was destroyed and helped evacuate the elderly. One building was destroyed and another 30 damaged.

Zaporizhia, a strategic industrial city close to the forefront of combat, is often attacked by Russian troops.

The Kyiv air force said Russia fired four ballistic missiles into the city, part of an overnight mass attack on Ukraine which also involved 92 drones.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's air defenses shot down 57 people and 27 others 'lost on site'.
