Trump Threatens Sanctions Between Russia And Other Countries If Deals End Ukraine's War Unreachable

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump threatens Russia "and other countries with taxes, tariffs and sanctions if an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is not reached immediately.

"I have no other choice but to apply high-level taxes, tariffs and sanctions to anything Russia sells to the United States, and various other countries to participate," Trump said in a Truth Social post.

Trump did not specify the countries he was referring to.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Moscow saw little chance of making an agreement with the new United States government under Donald Trump.

"We can't say anything today about the level of government capacity to come to negotiate, but still, compared to despair in every aspect of the previous White House head (Joe Biden), there are opportunities today, although small," Wamnelu Ryabkov said.

"Therefore, it is important to understand with what and with whom we have to deal with, the best way to build relationships with Washington, the best way to maximize opportunities and minimize risks," he said, while speaking at the US and Canadian Institute of Studies, a think tank in Moscow.
