543 Houses Next To Central Jakarta Police Burnt, 1,747 People Refuge

A total of 543 semi-permanent houses on Jalan Kemayoran Gempol, RT 07/08, Kemayoran District, Central Jakarta, were destroyed by fire on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, early in the morning.

The fire that started to burn since 01.15 WIB was gradually extinguished at 06.00 WIB. The process of extinguishing the fire was carried out by a total of 34 fire engines with 170 personnel.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the relevant officers. Meanwhile, the burned area is about 4,500 square meters.

Luckily there were no casualties as a result of this big fire incident. However, the loss due to the fire is estimated at more than IDR 6 billion.

At least 1,797 people with 60 families were forced to flee because 543 of their semi-permanent houses were burned down by fire.

The fire came from the 2nd floor of a resident's house named Ani, and residents saw that the fire had grown until it finally spread to 543 other houses.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro said that currently the firefighters are still cooling the fire.

"The information is that there are around 11 RTs, but we will see everything has been cooled," said Kombes Susatyo to reporters, Tuesday, January 22, 2025.
